Jack Skellington runs Halloween and is bored of it. He finds a door into another holiday, decides he understands it, and takes it over. He is wrong about almost everything, and the rag doll who loves him can see exactly how wrong, which is not the same as being able to stop him.

The Nightmare Before Christmas is the 1993 American stop-motion musical directed by Henry Selick, from a story and characters by Tim Burton, with songs and score by Danny Elfman.
Jack Skellington (Chris Sarandon speaking, Elfman singing), the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, has grown bored of running Halloween and stumbles through a door into Christmas Town. Convinced he understands what he has found, he kidnaps Santa Claus and takes Christmas over himself, delivering gifts that terrify the children receiving them. The rag doll Sally (Catherine O'Hara), who loves him, can see exactly how badly it will go, which is not the same as being able to stop him. Ken Page voices the gambling boogeyman Oogie Boogie, who has his own plans for Santa.
Obsession, misreading and the limits of enthusiasm are the material underneath the design. It has become one of the most durable annual repertory titles in American cinemas, playing every autumn across the Halloween and Christmas window, and Disney returned it to theaters on 1 October 2026.
For families, and for the audience that treats the October booking as a fixture.
