Michael Angelo Covino wrote and/or directed four short films before he debuted in theatrical features as co-writer (with director Sam Kretchmar) and producer/cast member of the comedy-drama, Keep in Touch (2015), but Covino made his breakthrough as director/co-writer/producer/co-star with creative partner Kyle Marvin of the acclaimed comedy-drama, The Climb (2019), with Gayle Rankin, Talia Balsam, George Wendt and Judith Godreche and premiering in the Un Certain Regard competition of the Cannes Film Festival, and released by Sony Pictures Classics.
Covino joined up again with Marvin as director/co-writer/producer/cast member of the comedy, Splitsville (2025), starring Dakota Johnson, Adria Arjona, Marvin, Nicholas Braun, O-T Fagbenle, premiering in the Cannes Film Festival and released wide by Neon.
Covino has acted in feature films, including Absence (2013)—for which he was also a producer--Good Enough (2016), director/writer Paul Greengrass’s News of the World (2020), the Dito Montiel-directed crime comedy Riff Raff (2024) and director/writer/producer Simon Hacker’s comedy-drama Notice to Quit (2025), for which he was also an executive producer. Covino has separately been credited as a producer, line producer or executive producer on the feature films Babysitter (2015), Beyond Glory (2015), Hunter Gatherer (2016), Kicks (2016), One Road to Quartzsite (2022), God’s Time (2022), 80 for Brady (2023), Ferrari: Fury & the Monster (2024), The Royal Stunt (date to be announced) and director Kyle Marvin’s Batso (date to be announced).
